Archaeology Student and Lecturer Takes Part in International Collaborative Research at Liang Bua, Flores
I Made Agus Julianto, S.S., M.Sc. (Lecturer) and Valentha Joe Trisnadjati (Student) from the Archaeology Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University, were involved in an international collaborative research in Liang Bua, Flores from May 26 to July 26, 2025.
The research was organized by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in collaboration with Lakehead University (Canada), Max Planck Institute (Germany), Smithsonian Institution (United States), University of Wollongong and Macquarie University (Australia).
This activity is an advanced research that aims to explore more deeply the culture and behavior of both modern humans (Homo sapiens) and “The Hobbit” (Homo floresiensis).
Valentha Joe Trisnadjati in this research is responsible as an excavation box supervisor in charge of monitoring and coordinating excavation activities in excavation boxes involving local workers, recording daily excavation reports and labeling and handling findings. Not only that, Valentha Joe Trisnadjati also had the opportunity to meet and discuss directly with international researchers.
On this occasion, Valentha also learned a lot about documentation/measurement using Total Station, ancient DNA analysis, stone artifact experiments and other basic analysis in archaeology. This was an amazing opportunity for students to not only gain in-depth field experience, but also to learn more about archaeology.
