Archaeological Study Program Excavation Activities in Blanjong, Sanur

From 22 June to 1 July 2024, the Archeology Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University (Unud) held excavation activities at Gg. Wana Sari, Blanjong, Sanur Kauh, South Denpasar, Denpasar. This activity not only aims to collect archaeological data of historical value, but also as a learning medium for students in the Archeology Practicum course.

The selection of the excavation site in Blanjong, Sanur was based on reports from villa project workers who discovered ancient building structures while digging land to build a swimming pool. 

A total of 48 students and lecturers participated in this excavation activity, with Mr. Kristiawan, S.S., M.A. act as a guide. For 10 full days, participants were divided into 5 groups each tasked with opening one excavation box. The findings obtained during this excavation period included brick fragments, pottery fragments, ceramic fragments, animal bones, teeth and even human bones.

For many students, excavation activities in Blanjong Sanur began their first debut in the world of archaeological research in the field. High enthusiasm and enthusiasm enveloped them, including Nabila, a student from the class of 2022.

"Even though the weather is scorching hot, I am very excited following this excavation," said Nabila. Not only because this is his first experience, but also because the chosen location holds a wealth of history, something extraordinary that not many people know about.

Excavation activities in Blanjong Sanur not only produced valuable archaeological finds, but also provided new experiences and knowledge for students. They learn about excavation methods, how to analyze findings, and the importance of teamwork. It is hoped that this experience will be useful for them in the future, both in the academic and professional world.
