Four Udayana University Archaeology Students Serve as Facilitators in the “Belajar Bersama di Museum: Arkeolog Cilik” (Learning Together at the Museum: Young Archaeologist) Event at the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Museum

Mataram, June 24 - Four students from the Archaeology Study Program at Udayana University participated as facilitators in the “Belajar Bersama di Museum: Arkeolog Cilik” (Learning Together at the Museum: Young Archaeologist) event organized by the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Museum on 24 June 2026 at the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Museum in Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara. The four students were Nicolas Nesta Rama Umbu Lado (Nicolas) and I Dewa Ayu Gita Pramesti Merta (Gita) from the Class of 2023, as well as Lalu Sunandy Teguh Drayanata (Teguh) and Aura Azzahra Rahman (Ara) from the Class of 2024. The event is an annual educational program held by the museum to commemorate National Archaeology Day (Hari Purbakala Nasional), with participants comprising junior high school students from various regencies and municipalities across West Nusa Tenggara Province. 

The program began with opening remarks delivered by the Head of the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Museum, Dr. Ahmad Nuralam, S.H., M.H., at Samalas Hall. In his speech, he expressed his appreciation to the invited speakers and the students of the Archaeology Study Program at Udayana University for their willingness to serve as facilitators and support the implementation of the activity. The opening session was followed by a presentation from Bunyamin, M.Hum., who introduced participants to the registration and documentation procedures for Potential Cultural Heritage Objects (Objek Diduga Cagar Budaya/ODCB).

Following the introductory session, participants were divided into two fieldwork locations: the Ampenan Old Town Area and the Mayura Park Site. At each location, students were organized into six groups and each group was accompanied by a different resource person. Activities at Mayura Park were guided by Lalu M. Balia Farsahin, S.Hum., M.Si., while activities in Ampenan Old Town were led by Ahmad Sugeng from the Lombok Heritage and Science Society (LHSS). Nicolas and Gita were assigned as facilitators at Mayura Park, whereas Teguh and Ara assisted participants in Ampenan Old Town. 

Throughout the fieldwork activities, the Udayana University students assisted participants in identifying and documenting Potential Cultural Heritage Objects. At the Mayura Park Site, participants recorded various remains of classical archaeology associated with the Hindu-Buddhist period, including buildings, structures, and statues. In Ampenan Old Town, participants documented several examples of colonial archaeological heritage, such as the former Hoa School building, a colonial electrical substation, the former Nederlandsch-Indische Handelsbank, and other historic structures. The facilitators also assisted participants in compiling and presenting the results of their field observations. 


At the conclusion of the program, representatives of the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Museum, including the Head of the Museum and Salsabila Luqyana, S.Sej., as a member of the organizing committee, expressed their appreciation to the Archaeology Study Program of Udayana University and the participating students for their valuable contribution to the success of the event. Similar appreciation was conveyed by Zuraidah, S.S., M.Si., Coordinator of the Archaeology Study Program at Udayana University, who thanked the museum for providing students with the opportunity to engage directly in public education activities related to archaeology and cultural heritage preservation. Both institutions expressed their hope that this collaboration will continue through future educational programs and cultural heritage initiatives.
