Cultural Heritage Digitization Process in Sumba
A total of 42 traditional villages in Sumba are undergoing the process of digitizing cultural heritage. This initiative was initiated by the Indonesian Native Sumbanese People Association (OSA) with the support of the Cultural Endowment Fund and collaboration with the Association of Indonesian Archaeologists and Udayana University. This process includes digital documentation and collaborative cultural events which are planned to take place in May 2024 in the Pasunga Traditional Village, Central Sumba.
The goal of the program is to maintain cultural relevance and prevent the loss of valuable data due to fire or other disasters. According to Kristiawan, this digitalization is expected to maintain the sustainability of Sumba's cultural heritage for the next two decades.
This project focuses not only on documentation, but also on developing a cultural ecosystem that is accessible to the wider community, including younger generations who may be more accustomed to digital technology.
